Summary In the present paper we propose an interface model for the interlaminate interac-tion in a two layer composite. The model is based on the concept of regularized displacement discontinuity, cf. refs [l], [2] and [3]. As a result, we obtain in an automatic fashion a constitutive interfacial relation in terms of the traction, vector and a displacement discontinuity for the inter-face. A simple damage-plasticity coupling is introduced to model the degradation of the interface "strength" during delamination. The interface model has been implemented in a FE-code on the basis of a weak formulation of a degenerated continuum with discontinuous displacements. Nu-merical results are presented for a DCB test.
